Effect of Microstructures on the Tribological Performance of Medium Carbon Steel

Improving wear resistance and reducing the coefficient of friction cylinder liner are critical to improving service life energy savings internal combustion engines. In this paper, effect characteristics cementite precipitation on tribological performance was studied using a medium carbon steel (AISI 1045 steel), which can be used make liners. Three kinds microstructures with different were obtained by heat treatments. Abrasive tests dry sliding conducted samples each microstructure. The study indicated that abrasive mainly depends its hardness rather than precipitation. However, increasing alone did not guarantee improvement steel. specimen spherical pearlite microstructure, granular distributed in ferrite matrix showed best performance. Moreover, mechanism discussed. end, correlation between behavior established. These findings help develop multiphase materials outstanding
